Special to this Feast is the blessing of animals and in Sóller this is followed by games on horseback. Also traditional are the bonfires on the Eve, at which people eat grilled Sobresada and Botifarrones (sausages) and sing songs of St Antony and the Devil, accompanied by the Ximbomba.

FIRÓ & FIRA DE SÓLLER
Second weekend of May
The Feria and Firó are the most popular Fiestas in the town, celebrating the victory of the ‘Sollerics’ against Saracens who invaded on 11th of May 1561.
After months of preparation, these celebrations last four days, during which a number of sporting events and traditional ceremonies take place, notably a Proclamation of the Fiesta and the Investiture of the ‘Valient Women’, chosen to represent historical figures who had the courage to defend their honour against the Saracens, and the Offering of Flowers to the Virgin of the Victory.
The Fiesta has two distinct parts. The Fira is celebrated on the second Sunday of May, when local artisans display and sell their craftwork and the country fair displays local produce and animals.
The other part is the Firó, on the Monday after the Fira. This is the grand celebration, carefully organized, months ahead, by the groups taking part. There is an historical re-enactment of the Saracen invasion, from the landing on the beach in the Port to the feverish defence by the Sollerics who, after three battles finally defeat them in the Plaza of Sóller.
The Firó involves much noise, with explosions, gunshots and firecrackers and the enthusiasm of the Sollerics for their town and history is joyfully displayed.

These are more family based celebrations than the Fira and Firo. Being a local fiesta ‘Sóllerics’ can enjoy themselves and celebrate more intimately, having fewer visitors, as normally this is not a holiday elsewhere in the island. Apart from cultural activities, exhibitions, concerts and sports etc, the group ‘Esclatabutzes’ organize a firework display, which has established itself as one of the most important displays in the island.
